The Star Gate of Ancient Anuradhapura

There is an amazing and unexplained artifact of an ancient civilisation of Si Lanka carved on the rock
in Ranmasu Uyana  (Gold Fish Park), which is located in the ancient city of Anuradhapura. This artifact is called Sekwala Chakraya also known as The Star Gate of Sri Lanka. Magul Uyana, the Royal Pleasure Gardens lies on outcrop of large rock boulders and some caves. Incised on the steep rock face of of  these boulders is a puzzling sight: a large circular diagram, with a span near by two metres in diameter.

The circle is filled with different Opes of symbols and patterns- linear and circular in design. The earliest
reference to this artery curving was made by H.C.P Bell, the first Archaeological Commissioner of Sri
Lanka (1890-1912). It is referred to in his 1901 Archaeology Survey Report of the North Central and
Central Provinces and is connected with the exploratory work he carried out in the area around the
Isurumuniya Temple.

Bell provides a comprehensive account of the circular carving. In the process, he also attempts to make

the text.Bell undoubtedly was influenced not on by his archaeological expertise but also by his vast
and accumulated knowledge of the island’s religion, culture and history Bell observed that the stone
circle caved on the boulder face featured a map, a map of the Universe, The Sakwala Chakraya He
also expressed the view that this “an map was an old-time cosmographical chart illustrating in naiest
simplicity the Buddhist notion of the universe”

This is a bana or word” uttered by Gautama Buddha in his oral instructions.Sakwala is a mundane, or
rather a solar system, of which there is an infinite number in the universe, and which denotes that space
to which the night of every sun extends. Each Sakwala contains earth, hells and heavens (meaning good
and bad spheres our earth being considered as hell in Occultism); attains its prime, then falls into decay
and is finally destroyed at regularly recurring periods, in virtue of one immutable law: The Sinhala form
Sakwala is Universe, or Galaxy.

Chakra is a sanskrut term meaning wheel or disc. Also Chakraya means a disc, or rotating circle on
Sinhala From a Buddhist point of view this is a structure of Universe or rotation cycle of life forms
The concept of the Mahameru Mountain, bing at the centre of the Universe, is an integral feature in the
the layout of the Buddhist Comes Its intrinsic worth is recognised in the fact of it being replicated in the Architectural design of the Stupa a monument of great religious significance to the Buddhists.

This is a circular petrograph  is 6 feet in diameter with strange symbols and has attracted historians and
archaeologists to pre-historic investigators to believers of extraterrestrials.

According to the Archaeological Survey of H.C.R. Bell in 1911, the centre of the Chakraya is filled by a
large circle comprising seven concentric rings within a square 2ft, and 2 inches to which cross lines are
drown vertically and horizontally encircling hand cutting the Chakraya into quadrants. Further parallel
Hines divide the circles vertically into ten strips or slices varying in width from 3 inches to 9 inches but
matching to left and right of the central vertical line Al strips but outer two are bisected by the
horizontal baseline and subdivided into dual or quadripartite partitions The outermost strips
un-bisected contain a single small circle, quadrisect by crass lines and a figure of phallic suggestions
In each of the penultimate divisions, right and left is a tiny card in line with the horizontal bisection of
the Chakraya, but nothing else. In the third pair are shown four more quadrisect circles Huo and two,
one of the upper and lower partitions left and right.

The fourth strip to right contains four more such circles bigger and each in a separate partition. But that
is to left has compressed its circles into a quadripartite panel below the horizontal baseline leaving the
Mer panel knee for four distinct diagrams-second seven ringed circles (differing only in sine from its
the larger counterpart in the centre of the Chakraya) beneath which are two umbrellas like emblems and a

Bell was of the view that this petroglyph is the ancient understanding of the universe and consider this as
a cosmographical chart of the universe or a Mop of the World’as described in the ancient Buddhist texts.
He also rightfully believes that this would be the perhaps the oldest map in existence in the world
Anuradhapura Kingdom was existed from about 400 BC to about 1000 AD but some are of the view
that this artefact to be older than 5000 years and connected to the period of Ravana.
